UAE calls on world to take further measures to reduce gas emissions
Abu Dhabi, February 12, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE called yesterday on the world community to address and tackle all factors leading to the rise in temperature as part of international efforts to handle global warming.
H.E. Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hameli, Minister of Energy, told a workshop on mitigating effects of climate change in Abu Dhabi that government regulations were needed to reduce gas emissions as part of a blanket solution to the problem of global warming.
''The UAE has launched several scientific green initiatives in this respect covering the sectors of energy, construction, transport, agriculture and waste management so as to reduce emissions which affect our daily life,''' the minister said.
''We should all join hands to protect the environment whether there is a problem of global warming or not,'' he affirmed.
The two-day workshop will discuss policy of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the scientific arm of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in that respect.
