UAE to host largest national pavilion at IDEX 2009
Abu Dhabi, February 12, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE will highlight its defence capabilities to the world with a massive 10,517 sq. m national pavilion at the 9th International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2009) which takes place this month at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
IDEX 2009 is being held on February 22 to 26, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President and Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The UAE pavilion - the largest among the national pavilions at IDEX 2009 -- will host 89 companies including Tawazun Holding, Mubadala, Offset Group, Abu Dhabi Ship Building, International Golden Group (IGG), Al Masaood, Bin Jabr Group, Advanced Integrated Systems, Hydra Trading, MP3 International, Whitebox Robotics, Al Hamra Trading and Al Mutlaq technology, among others.
"IDEX attracts unprecedented attention from the global defence industry and represents an incredible business opportunity for exhibitors. Over the years, UAE companies, in particular, have shown an increasing interest in IDEX. The UAE pavilion at this year's IDEX will be significantly bigger than at the last show in 2007," said Mohamed Al Mashgouni, Show Director, highlighting the contributions of national companies such as Abu Dhabi Ship Building and Caracal, a Tawazun Holding subsidiary, in building the UAE's status as a reputable defence manufacturer.
Besides the UAE, other large national pavilions at IDEX include Germany (3,280 sqm, 57 companies), USA (2,381 sqm, 44 companies), Turkey (2,214 sqm, 39 companies), Italy (1,472 sqm, 35 companies) and France (1,256 sqm, 44 companies).
The other national pavilions at IDEX 2009 are: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, UK, Russia, Korea, Australia, Austria, China, Belgium, Poland, Bosnia, Pakistan, Portugal, Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Slovak Republic, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.
In total, 50 countries will be represented at IDEX 2009, which is expected to draw more than 45,000 visitors including government and industry leaders.
The show, first held in 1993, is considered as the ideal platform for the defence industry to showcase emerging technology, equipment, trends and strategy. It will feature land, sea and air vehicles and systems, radar, electronic warfare and electro-optic systems, weapons and ordnance, C4ISR, CBRN defence, homeland and internal security, simulation and training, logistics, medical and survival systems and personal equipment.
