Crew of the cargo vessel and oil tanker rescued
Dubai, February 12, 2009 (WAM) - All crew members of the oil tanker 'Kashmir' and the container vessel 'Sema Saman' which collided early afternoon yesterday seven nautical miles off the Dubai Coast have been rescued and are safe, assured Commander General of Dubai Police Lt.General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim.
Police rescued all the 20 crew members of the oil tanker 'Kashmir' and the 19 crew members of the cargo vessel Sema Saman in time. Two of them sustained very minor injuries and are recovering, while all others are doing well, he said.
Tamim added that the operations room received the report at 12.28 pm on Tuesday informing of the collision involving the container vessel and the Singaporean flag carrier five nautical miles off the Jebel Ali Port.
The fire that broke out in the oil tanker carrying liquefied gas was brought under control and a minor fire in one of the containers in the other vessel was put out in time, Tamim asserted.
The oil tanker was carrying 22 reservoirs of liquefied gas, but only one of them was damaged as a result of the accident.
Official sources said the fire erupted in the oil tanker. They added that another fire erupted in the Maltese flagged container vessel, but was brought under control by the crew.
