Gourmet Abu Dhabi closes to international acclaim
Abu Dhabi, February 16, 2009 (WAM) - Gourmet Abu Dhabi - the 10-day culinary extravaganza launched by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority to begin putting the emirate in the international gourmet map - closed last night to a flood of acclaim.
The festival, comprising chateaux dinners, master classes and special events and which featured 13 master chefs sharing 24 Michelin stars, five master pâtissiers, one-night only celebrations with Australian TV celebrity chef Curtis Stone and the UK's avant-garde culinary commentator Ian Wright, 14 gastronomic personalities, 6 chateaux representatives and 13 hosting establishments throughout the UAE capital, ended with a magnificent Arabian Feast in the grounds of the Armed Forces Officers Club.
And the ADTA pledged that it was seeking input from attendees to fine-tune the event for an even better performance in February 2010.
Addressing the audience, Dayne Lim, the ADTA's Product Development Director and Head of the Gourmet Abu Dhabi Organising Committee, said the majority of the festival's programme had been oversubscribed demonstrating pent-up demand for a world-class culinary event.
"It has been a magnificent event," he said. "Ten days of great food, of brilliant surroundings, of master classes that have been so popular we could not include everyone.
"This event has quickly become the talk of the town - indeed word has spread throughout the country and much further. The response has been great - the feedback, if I can use this word for a gourmet event - has told us we are doing a lot right. But we want to hear more - more about what you want. More of what was perhaps missing - and how we can make this even better for everyone. I promise you we are listening.' Gourmet Abu Dhabi, which was aimed at reinforcing the UAE capital's growing reputation as a vibrant destination by leveraging its gastronomic strengths, inspiring the local hospitality sector and demonstrating the emirate's prowess in hosting world-class events, struck a chord with visitors from outside the UAE.
Mariani Pascale flew from Corsica to spend 10 days in Abu Dhabi especially for Gourmet Abu Dhabi. Mariana, who runs a bed '&' breakfast in Corsica and is responsible for all the cooking says she came to source new ideas from the event's visiting master chefs.
