DED and Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation sign agreement
Dubai, February 16, 2009 (WAM) - The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) and Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) signed a co-operation agreement to strengthen licensing procedures and provide a strong growth-environment for investors in Dubai.
As per the agreement, Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation will use DED's data licensing and business registration system to issue licenses to individuals, companies and corporations, whose activities fall under Dubai World's projects, a strategic partner to PCFC.
Sami Al Qamzi, Director General, DED, and Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Executive Chairman, PCFC, signed the agreement. Officials from DED, PCFC and Dubai World attended the signing ceremony held, recently, at DED headquarters in Deira.
'The agreement comes in line with DED's objective to enhance the performance of the business sector, which plays a vital role in driving the growth of the economy in Dubai. DED will coordinate with Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation to monitor and inspect the companies and corporations to ensure their commitment to commercial laws especially those related to commercial fraud, infringement of trademarks and commercial agencies', said Al Qamzi.
Ahmed Butti Ahmed said: 'The licensing and business registration processes will be administered by Trakhees, the body concerned with issuing licenses and permits at PCFC, which will give added value to customers who can enjoy high quality and distinguished services. This exercise will obviously save time and effort of clients and enable them to avail of the package of quality services offered by PCFC'.
