UK has significant presence at IDEX 2009

Abu Dhabi, February 16, 2009 (WAM) - Lt General Andrew Figgures, Deputy Chief of Staff (Equipment Capabilities), senior officials from UKTI DSO and British companies involved in some of the most cutting edge products in the world are flying to Abu Dhabi to attend IDEX 2009, one of the most prominent defence exhibitions in the region to identify opportunities in both the civil and defence sectors.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit IDEX 2009, my first visit since talking up my appointment last August. I am aware of the strong and historical links between the UK and UAE. We are very keen to enhance the defence and security relationship and also offer world class products and encourage more industrial cooperation in both these sectors," Richard Paniguian Head UKTI DSO, said.
"The UK also has a great deal of expertise to offer in the contracting out of defence-support services, including such activities as logistics support, storage and distribution, and base management, as well as considerable experience of Private Finance Initiatives and other innovative approaches. All this expertise and close cooperation reflects the important relationship between the UAE and UK," he added.
Accompanying Richard Paniguian, Head of UKTI DSO (United Kingdom Trade and Investment Defence and Security Organisation) is Malcolm Haworth Regional Director for the region.
The UK delegation will be one of the most prominent overseas contingents to this international event running from 22 - 26 February, and will include over 90 UK companies. The UK pavilion is being organised by the Defence Manufacturers Association the main trade association for the land and maritime sectors.
