Hamdan bin Rashid receives Lord Mayor of the City of London

Dubai, February 16, 2009 (WAM) - Dubai Deputy Ruler and UAE Finance Minister, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, received at his office yesterday the visiting Lord Mayor of the City of London, Ian Luder.
During the meeting, which was held in the presence of Governor of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Dr. Omar Mohammed Ahmed bin Sulaiman, they discussed a number of issues related to cooperation between financial and banking institutions in the UAE with their counterparts in the UK, in view of the global financial and economic developments.
Sheikh Hamdan welcomed any form of joint cooperation and concerted efforts aimed at winning back confidence in financial markets worldwide.
Luder expressed his personal confidence and those of British financial and banking institutions in UAE financial markets and banking sector. He said the UAE financial markets, as a leading market in the region, was capable of overcoming the negative impact of the global crisis.
He said the UAE has vast experience to make generous contributions in stimulating growth in the financial and banking sector and commended the country for her leading role in that area.
He also lauded the DIFC for its role as a regional and international centre and a gateway for international financial markets to the region, adding that the DIFC commands great respect in that regard, particularly in London.
