ADNEC to stage spectacular opening ceremony for IDEX 2009

Abu Dhabi, Feb 17, 2009 (WAM) - On Sunday 22 February, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), the UAE Armed Forces GHQ and Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) will stage the capital's largest ever exhibition opening ceremony to mark the beginning of the 9th International Defence Exhibition '&' Conference (IDEX 2009).
The ceremony will be held at ADNEC's historic Grandstand.
Commenting on the forthcoming edition of IDEX, Major General Obaid Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Military Committees and The Official Spokesman for IDEX 2009, said, "IDEX is very important to the emirate of Abu Dhabi and a huge amount of effort has gone into ensuring that this is the best IDEX ever. I am confident that the opening ceremony will provide a memorable start to this year's IDEX." "We are extremely honoured to stage IDEX 2009 and we are delighted to be able to hold the prestigious opening ceremony at our Grandstand, which for many years used to view military parades and other important national celebrations. There can be no more fitting use for our redeveloped Grandstand than to once again incorporate it into a military spectacle," added His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmel Al Dhaheri, ADNEC Managing Director.
''The 45 minute extravaganza has been planned for over a year and has been inspired by three major elements, ‘inspiration, technology and humanity'. It will involve performances from 736 children from 13 different schools within the emirate of Abu Dhabi," he added.
''State-of-the-art technology from Singapore and China will be used to create the opening ceremony, including 564sqm of LED screens. Traffic management has temporarily been introduced Khaleej Al Arabi Highway due to the 5,000 cubic metres of sand (equivalent to 200 truck loads) which has been laid on the Abu Dhabi bound carriage-way to construct a challenging demonstration area similar to desert terrain, which will see the very latest defence vehicles put through their paces.
ADNEC, GHQ and ADTA have brought more than 120 experts from around the world to co-ordinate every aspect of the ceremony; these specialists bring the highest standards of event management, choreography and audio visual experience to produce this unique daytime spectacular.
IDEX 2009 will be the largest exhibition ever to be staged in the Gulf, using indoor, outdoor and Al Bateen Channel space, at the state-of-the-art Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Over 900 exhibitors from 50 nations will be represented at the event, which is expected to draw more than 40,000 visitors including government and industry leaders.
