Number plate auction fetches 44million

Abu Dhabi, Feb 23, 2009 (WAM) - The total revenue from the 14th auction of distinguished number plates, held on last Saturday at Emirates Palace Hotel, fetched Dh 44 million. The revenue was 25% more than the previous auction.
Organisers said number (8) was sold for Dh8 million, therefore entering the Diamond List of the most expensive 10 numbers in the world. It gained equal footing with number (11) launched by Dubai Police earlier.
Colonel Salim Ali Al Shamsi, Director of privatization and Resources Development at Abu Dhabi Police, said the auction witnessed severe competition between the bidders.
The numbers which fetched higher prices were: Number (77) fetched Dh4m Number (34) fetched Dh 2,650,000 Number (43) fetched Dh 2,050,000 Number (58) fetched Dh 2,050,000 Number (888) fetched Dh 1,300,000 Number (88888) fetched Dh 1,250,000 Number (9999) fetched Dh 1,950,000 Al Shamsi appreciated the positive participation of the public. One of the participants age was only 8 years. Another group of prestigious numbers would be launched during the next auction.
Abdullah Mattar Al Manai, Executive manager of Emirates Auction, said the auction drew the attention of many participants. The number of audience were 259 among them 129 were actual bidders.
The revenue from this auction exceeded the revenues of the previous three auctions. Some numbers exceeded expectations, where number (131) fetched Dh 1,500,000. The participants expressed their happiness for taking part in the auction of which the revenue goes for charity work.
