CNIA signs Dh460 million contract with ADSB to build 34 interceptor boats

Abu Dhabi, Feb. 24, 2009 (WAM) - The Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA) signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company (ADSB) to build and supply 34 high-speed interceptor boats at an estimated total value of Dh460 million.
The deal was signed during the 9th International Defence Exhibition (IDEX 2009) at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
CNIA's Director General, Staff Brigadier Engineer Muhair Ali Al Khateri, said, "Through this deal, CNIA aims to expand the capabilities of its fleet which is tasked with protecting the country's critical marine facilities. The contract provides high quality boats, built using state-of-the-art multi-purpose technologies and equipment. These boats will be globally competitive." The Director General said that the boats will be powered by MTU diesel engines and will be capable of achieving speeds of over 50 knots per hour to efficiently protect the country's territorial waters and maritime facilities from all foreign and inbound threats. He added that this deal comes as part of CNIA's efforts to procure the latest technologies and equipment to implement its mission of providing the maximum and most efficient land and sea protection. CNIA's efforts are in line with the vision of the Government of Abu Dhabi for social prosperity and sustainable development for a prosperous future for the economy of the emirate.
William Saltzer, Chief Executive Officer of ADSB, added, "We are glad to have been chosen to build this fleet for CNIA. We are delighted to have been selected as the builder and supplier of these state-of-the-art interceptor vessels." ADSB and Yonca Onuk also signed an agreement with International Golden Group to assist in this project.
