Sheikh Khalifa Charity Foundation dispatches emergency assistance to Swat Valley refugees
Abu Dhabi, February 26, 2009 (WAM) - The Sheikh Khalifa Charity Foundation has dispatched emergency relief supplies to the Swat Valley in Pakistan to alleviate the sufferings of the refugees in that part of Pakistan, which is located about 160 kilometres from the capital, Islamabad, and has a population of about one and a half million people.
The kind gesture, which is part of the foundation's commitment and humanitarian mission of reaching out to people in distress, include tents, food items and blankets.
According to the Foundation, the kind gesture was in line with its humanitarian obligations towards sister and friendly countries, adding that the sad situation of the refugees in the Swat Valley prompted the foundation to expedite action to reach out to them to alleviate their sufferings.
It's worth noting that majority of the refugees in that area are children and women, who are facing acute shortage in food and portable water.
