Malaysian Athletes Bagged Gold In Thai Open

KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 (Bernama) – The Malaysian athletics squad started off the 2018 Thailand Open Track and Field Championships in Bangkok with a double gold victory, Friday. National sprinter, Nixson Kennedy bagged the gold medal in the men’s 100m event by setting a season best of 10.57 seconds in the final to claim the gold, after clocking 10.69s in the semifinals. Chinese Taipei’s Tai-Sheng Wei claimed the silver with 10.63s, while bronze was won by the hots team with a time of 10.66s. This was followed by Benedict Ian Gawok’s gold feat in the men’s 110m hurdles junior event, who also set the season's best with 14.54s in the finals, after clocking identical time earlier in the heats. Host’s representative claimed the silver and bronze medals. Meanwhile, Mohd Rizzua Haizad Muhammad only managed to settle in fourth place in the men’s 110m hurdles after clocking 14.51s in the finals. South Korea’s Lee Jung Joon bagged the gold with 14.30s, while Filipino Clinton Kingsley Bautista (14.37s) and Anousone Xayxa (14.47s) of Laos took the silver and bronze medals respectively. In the women’s category, Shereen Samson Vallabouy advanced to the 400m finals scheduled on Sunday, after clocking 55.83s in the Heat 3. -- BERNAMA
