10,000 CDs seized in anti-piracy drive

The Ministry of Economy has announced the seizure of 10,000 counterfeit CDs from the local market as part of its campaign to protect intellectual property rights and root out pirated software.
Engineer Mohammad Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Director General, said the ministry stepped up its inspection campaigns on UAE markets to crack down on violators of intellectual property and copy rights.
"The ministry will take appropriate legal action against violators without leniency to curb this serious issue," Al Shehhi said.
The ongoing campaign demonstrates the UAE's strong commitment to root out software piracy and protect intellectual property rights.
He added that the relentless campaign against software pirates has made the UAE one of the most successful countries in the Middle East in bringing down piracy levels.
Al Shehhi stressed the ministry's commitment to make UAE markets free from piracy is in the interest of the local market and the national economy.
The ministry is working closely with parties concerned in tackling this serious issue that has a strong negative fallout on the national economy.
The UAE has implemented tough measures to protect intellectual property rights by introducing legislation that prescribe stiff penalties for violators and following up by conducting successful raids on violating companies.
As a result of these efforts, the UAE has successfully brought down piracy to the lowest levels in the region.
