Asian Games: Shooters Way Off Target

By Ahmad Syabil Sultan Noordin Ahmad PALEMBANG, Aug 24 (Bernama) — The national shooters were “way off target” at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. With Bibiana Ng and Joseline Cheah faring miserably in the women’s 10m Air Pistol at the Jakabaring Shooting Range here today, the shooting squad will be flying home early with nothing to show. They finished in 23rd and 24th place respectively. Only the top eight qualify for the final. Bibiana managed only 560 points while Joseline 559. “Overall my performance was just average. This is not my pet event and actually I am still trying new techniques under our South Korean coach Lee Do Hee,” she told reporters. Lee only joined the national shooting squad as coach for the pistol events in April. Before this, Alia Sazana Azahari failed to make the cut in the women’s 25m pistol while Eng Wei Jin who was making his Asian Games debut floundered in the men’s double trap. Malaysia won two silver and a bronze at the last edition in Incheon in 2014. — BERNAMA
