Dh100m media college planned
The Ras Al Khaimah Media City is in the final stages of planning a Dh100-million media studies college as part of its new two million sqft campus, said its chief executive.
The project is being executed in collaboration with an overseas partner, said Junaid Shaikh, CEO of RAK Media City, who preferred not to disclose the names of the parties involved "until an agreement is finally and officially reached".
"It has taken time and we preferred no publicity in the early stages of negotiations; but now we have agreed on 70 per cent of all issues with the parties involved and it looks very positive. Once finalised, the new college will roughly be a Dh100m-plus investment," said Shaikh.
"The investment for the college is by RAK Media Investment administration and the management team will be mainly from the Mumbai film industry in India. Many faculty members are expected to be experts from the world of media, films and television from Hollywood.
"The college aims to position RAK Media City as an attractive destination for film and TV professionals who want to base their activities in the region, especially out of the UAE, and offer courses in film and TV production and direction, he said.
"We have completed the design study and the college is expected to cover 500,000 sqft, or 25 per cent of RAK Media City's area of two million sqft. The college will be on a different plot from the one currently used for the construction of 24 projects in announced previously," said Shaikh.
