Emirati film chosen by American educational distributor

Abu Dhabi, March 15, 2009 (WAM) - High school students in the USA and around the world have been given access to a film in which Emiratis tell their own story of growing up in one of the world's fastest growing economies.
Creative Energy - Shaping the Emirates, made in 2004, has been gaining in popularity as a unique window into life in the Emirates and has been shown on a wide variety of platforms as well as distributed on DVD.
Recently Films Media Group, the leading provider of high-quality video and multimedia for academic, vocational and life-skills content, serving the education community, selected the film as recommended content for studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
"Educational films on the United Arab Emirates play an important role in correcting misconceptions about our society and in combating ignorance about the UAE", stated Saqr Ghobash, the UAE's Minister of Labour and Chairman of the National Media Council.
"We welcome this development and hope to see more educational films on our country used by international institutions in their teaching programmes."
The US distributor of the film, Films Media Group, through its main brands, provides academic content for discerning educators working to enrich their students' understanding and stretch their intellectual horizons. Their core brand, Films for the Humanities '&' Sciences, is widely recognized as the exclusive source for educational programs with the broadest and deepest range of content available.
Creative Energy - Shaping the Emirates, is also being distributed by the group's Cambridge outlet that provides outstanding media resources to support the development of the whole student, both in and out of the classroom. Films provided by this division are widely accepted as providing practical and accurate information, and a reliable foundation of knowledge that helps students think through opportunities and choices and reach their potential at school, in work, and in life.
The National Media Council has played a key role in supporting independent film-makers to develop original new media content on the UAE and has a policy of non-interference in the editorial process, ensuring that such films meet the highest standards of accuracy, balance and integrity.
Saqr Ghobash recently announced that a new film on the UAE is soon to be released, acting as a sequel to Creative Energy: Shaping the Emirates. "We are pleased that American and international students are gaining access to high quality media content on our country", he said. "We expect that this trend will continue and that online distribution of such educational media content will play an increasingly important role in media development. The NMC is developing its own policies to meet this need".
The producer of Creative Energy, Shaping the Emirates, Dr Peter Vine, is also the producer of the new film referred to by the NMC's Director General. "Better City, Better Life: Building the Emirates takes a fresh look at the same issues we addressed in 2004", he stated. "It is amazing how fast things have changed. During the filming of Creative Energy we searched for evidence that the UAE was serious about finding solutions for its energy needs in the longer term but there was relatively little to show at that stage. Now we have Masdar and other sustainable energy initiatives and the World Future Energy Conference.
The UAE has become a centre for development of sustainable energy solutions. The new film brings us right up to date and covers the theme chosen for Expo 2010: Better City Better Life. We expect it to resonate with many audiences worldwide and are confident that it will be well used by educators", he commented.
