Contrasting Fates For Two Malaysian Pairs In Taiwan Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) — Two Malaysian mixed doubles pairs faced contrasting fates in the opening round in the 2018 Taiwan Open Badminton Tournament in Taipei Tuesday. Third seeds Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei were pushed to the limit before defeating Tam Chun Hei-Ng Shiu Yee of Hong Kong; winning in 13-21, 21-15 and 21-16 in the match held at Taipei Arena, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com. Another national pair, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheah Yee See, however, crashed out of the US$500,000 (RM2.071 million) tournament after losing 16-21 and 17-21 to seventh seeds, Kohei Gondo-Ayane Kurihara of Japan in another opening round match. A few Malaysian players will play in the opening round, tomorrow including national men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani and national women’s singles shuttler, Soniia Cheah in the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament. — BERNAMA
