Zii Jia Upsets Fourth Seed In Taiwan Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 (Bernama) – National men's singles shuttler, Lee Zii Jia led the country’s charge into the second round of the 2018 Taiwan Open Badminton Tournament in Taipei, Taiwan, Wednesday. The unseeded Zii Jia pulled off a surprise by knocking out the fourth seed, Hsu Jen Hao of Taiwan, 21-18 , 22-20 in an opening round match held at Taipei Arena, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website, www.bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com. Former national player, Chong Wei Feng also booked his spot in the second round by defeating Vietnam’s veteran player, Nguyen Tien Minh, 13-21, 21-17 and 21-13 in another first round match. Two other Malaysian players – Leong Jun Hao and Liew Daren, however, crashed out of the US$500,000 (RM2.070 million) tournament after they were beaten by their respective opponents in the opening round encounter. Jun Hao put up a spirited fight against Lin Yu Hsien of Taiwan before losing 21-10, 18-21 and 13-21 while the third seeded Daren were knocked out by another Taiwanese player, Chen Chi Ting, 19-21, 18-21.
