UAE Cabinet Okays community service law
Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presided over a cabinet meeting held yesterday at the Presidential Palace.
The cabinet discussed topics on the meeting's agenda and ratified a number of federal draft laws, including a law on the alternative community service arrangements, designed to push those who commit misdemeanours and violations into serving the community for specified numbers of hours in lieu of a fine or a jail term, in line with the success achieved in benchmarked countries.
Also approved was the draft law on the public revenues which aims at regulating government revenues, collection methods and control, as well as a draft law on the closing accounts of the federation and of the appended autonomous entities for the fiscal year ending on 31 December 2008.
The cabinet sanctioned by laws of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and endorsed mutual agreements the country has signed with brotherly and friendly countries on joint cooperation, extradition of criminals and legal aid.
The cabinet approved a draft law to amend law number 47 for 1992 on the establishment of the Marriage Fund which deals with the Fund's objectives, duties, management, marriage grants and other regulatory frameworks.
It also sanctioned the estimated budget of the General Pensions and Social Security Authority (GPSSA), put at AED 3.6 billion.
