Malaysia Wins Two Silver, Two Bronze At Para Asia
JAKARTA, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia started excellently in the 2018 Asian Para Games challenge when they won two silver and two bronze medals in the final action on the first day of the Games Sunday.
The men's national badminton team contributed the first medal after qualifying for the final of the event but failed to compete with the Indonesian favourites after losing 1-2, to earn the silver medal.
National men's singles, Mohammad Faris Ahmad Azri failed to cope with Deva Anrimusthi in the final match after being tied 1-1, losing in straight sets 6-21, 12-21.
In the first singles match, Bakri Omar lost 6-21 and 12-21 to Fredy Setiawan.
The national pair of Cheah Liek Hou/Hairul Fozi Saaba equalised with 1-1 after beating the Hafizh Brilliansyah/Hary Susanto pair 21-10, 21-17.
The national para squad won one silver medal and two bronze medals in the actions at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Centre.
National paralympic swimmer, Fraidden Dawan won the silver medal for the 100m butterfly S10 category (Men's 100m butterfly S10 category) with a time of 1 minute 7.66 seconds, losing to Izadyar Shahin (Iran) who clocked 1: 07.12 seconds, to win gold.
Malaysia also won a bronze medal at the 200m individual medley SM8 category event.
National swimmer, James Wong Tien Yu clocked 2: 50.24 seconds, losing to Xu Haijiao and Huang Xianquan of China who won gold and silver, respectively.
For the 100m breaststroke category SB4 (Men's 100m breaststroke SB4 category), Anderson Jamba added another bronze medal for Malaysia.
Malaysia is currently ranked 12th in the medal position while China is ranked at the top with 10 gold, five silver and three bronze.
Malaysia targeted 15 gold medals at the festival by taking part in 15 of the 18 events contested.
