Family Public Prosecution to be established to tackle family issues in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, March 17, 2009 (WAM) - His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), has ordered the establishment of Family Public Prosecution, a special body within the Public Prosecution to deal with family issues in Abu Dhabi City.
The new body's functions and responsibilities as well as location will be decided by the Acting Attorney General of Abu Dhabi, along global best practices.
The move reflects the firm belief of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, that justice is the ultimate goal of governance, a source of security and the essence of development. It is also in concordance with the directive of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to make judiciary a key pillar of socio-economic development of the Emirate.
Yousef Al Abri, Acting Attorney General of Abu Dhabi, said the new body will specialize in juvenile delinquencies and crimes within a single family and give verdict on family issues and affairs of minors before various courts as per the circumstances described by law.
The body will be managed by a prosecution member with a minimum grade of first prosecutor. He will be assisted by a group of members. In addition, a team of social counselors will be appointed to work in the body to study the cases and submit reports to the head of the prosecution and the specialized court.
"The establishment of the family issues' body is in line with the five-year strategy of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department. It reaffirms the vision of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department Chairman to expand courts and prosecutions to accelerate settlement of cases," said Al Abri. "It also forms part of the chairman's vision to take judiciary in Abu Dhabi to world-class standards." A dedicated building will be constructed to house the new body in order to separate it from the prosecution headquarters.
The new body will focus on encouraging reconciliation in an effort to create the right environment for family members, and provide a better quality of life for parents and children.
Family-related disputes cover extravagance, alimony, child custody and other delinquencies which underscore the need for a specialized public prosecution cell to save money, time and effort of all parties involved.
Al Abri added: "The new body will bring all family-related issues into a single file in front of the judge. It will be authorised to settle issues efficiently and speedily, using specialised knowledge and expertise." The Public Prosecution office, in conjunction with the Academy of Judicial Studies and Specialized Training, will start training employees of the new body.
