MEMBERS OF AZERBAIJAN`S PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION TO PACE MEET WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF AD HOC COMMITTEE TO OBSERVE REFERENDUM ON CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS
Baku, March 17 (AzerTAc). Members of Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation to PACE met with representatives of the Ad hoc Committee to observe the referendum on the constitutional reforms headed by representative of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Paul Wille.
Head of the parliamentary delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov thanked the leadership of the Council of Europe for sending a mission to Azerbaijan to monitor the March 18 referendum.
Seyidov noted his country attaches significant importance to European values.
He also underscored the importance of exchanging views with European parliamentarians in terms of promoting democracy and increasing transparency.
Seyidov recalled that CoE observers also monitored the presidential elections in Azerbaijan which took place on October 15, 2008, adding they described the results of the election as “high.”
He expressed confidence “the European parliamentarians will witness that the March 18 referendum will be conducted in a transparent and democratic manner.”
Paul Wille, in turn, said the Council of Europe wants to help the process of democratic changes in Azerbaijan.
Then, member of the parliamentary delegation to PACE Ali Huseynov spoke of the ongoing legal and democratic reforms in the country, as well as preparation for the upcoming referendum.
