Bahrain fighters win noted

Manama, Nov. 19 (BNA): Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant secretary general and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar congratulated Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa on Bahrain fighters winning nine medals at the recently concluded IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships in Bahrain.
Bahrain took one gold, three silver and five bronze - in the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) event of its kind in Asia at the Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
Askar also expressed his deepest congratulations to Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, on this remarkable achievement.
The BOC secretary general noted the contributions of the Bahrain MMA Federation, headed by organsing committee Chairman Khalid Al Khayyat, who spared no efforts to make the event a great success.
Pasha Kharkhachaev took the male super heavyweight gold for Bahrain, while the trio of Ebrahim Darwish (boys junior straw weight), Mohammed Al Mauamari (boys flyweight) and Magomed Idrisov (boys bantamweight) claimed a silver medal each.
Bahrain’s bronze medals were won by Ali Yaqoob (boys junior bantamweight), Hasan Ayyad (boys junior straw weight), Abdulmanap Magomedov (boys, featherweight), Shamil Gimbatov (boys, lightweight) and Murad Guseinov (boys, welterweight).
All the nine fighters were representing the KHK MMA Bahrain team of Shaikh Khalid, who attended the closing ceremony on Saturday along with event patron Shaikh Nasser.
