Malaysia Win 4 Bronze Medals at Petanque Championship In India
SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan), Nov 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia won four bronze medals and took third place at the 1st Asian Boules Sport Confederation Petanque Championship held at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, from Nov 15-19.
Team manager Abdul Halim Maidin said the medals were won by Norashimah Senin in the women's singles, Khairul Amirul Zamarulhisham and Abd Rahman Mansor (men's doubles), Norasyimah and Nurul Balqis Fuzian (women's doubles) and Abd Rahman and Norasyimah (mixed doubles).
"We are very proud of this achievement as they (the athletes) have won medals in the very first (international) tournament they have taken part in. They were trained by coach Mohd Zin Yusuf.
"Our players comprise those who won the gold at the 2018 Perak Malaysia Games. They are junior national team athletes and we sent them to the tournament (in India) for exposure and to gain experience at the international level," he told Bernama here Wednesday.
Thailand won the competition picking up five gold medals, followed by Cambodia with five silver, Malaysia (four bronze) and hosts India (one bronze)
