China mulling setting up of learning centre in Chennai


Chennai, Apr 4 (PTI) With the number of Chinese students
seeking IT education in India's soutrhern state of Tamil Nadu
and the interest among the local people to know more about
China increasing, Beijing is mulling to set up a Chinese
learning centre here.

Chinese Ambassador to India Zheng Yan Saturday said, "The
centre is likely to come up in Chennai."

Zheng told reporters here after paying a courtesy call on
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy that the economic
relations between India and China were fast expanding and
expressed his country's desire to invest in Tamil Nadu.

Hailing the industrial environment in Chennai, Zheng said
Chinese businessmen and industrialists could head to Tamil
Nadu to set up units.

Bilateral trade had touched USD 52 billion last year,
growing by 34 per cent from the previous fiscal, he said.

Describing Swamy as a "great friend", of the Communist
nation, Zheng said his country "will not forget him".

After his meeting with Zheng, Swamy told PTI that besides
wanting to know about the favourable areas of business
investment, the Chinese Ambassador also discussed
"international matters of mutual interest" with him.

The two also discussed steps for improving teaching of
Chinese in the state, Swamy added. PTI SA
