FNC participates in IPU General Assembly meeting

Abu Dhabi, April 7, 2009 (WAM) - The 120th session of the General Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), opened in Addis Ababa yesterday. Parliamentary delegates from more than 150 countries, including a delegation from the UAE's Federal National Council (FNC) headed by Sultan Saqr Al-Suwaidi, FNC member, are attending the meeting, which was inaugurated by Ethiopian President, Girma Woldegiorgis.
In a welcome address, the Ethiopian President stressed the importance of international parliamentary work and its generous contributions to finding solutions to problems facing the international community, particularly the global financial crisis. He expressed the hope that the IPU would, at the end of the meeting, come up with recommendations and resolutions on the issues on its agenda, particularly on those related to global peace and security.
The meeting, which will last until Thursday, will discuss a number of issues, including the role of parliament in consolidating security, democracy and development in time of crisis.
