Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed arrives in Washington

Abu Dhabi, April 7, 2009 (WAM) - The UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, arrived in Washington, D.C. Sunday night for a five-day official visit.
Sheikh Abdullah will spend the upcoming week meeting with senior U.S. government officials on matters of mutual interest, including regional security issues, the pending UAE - U.S. Civilian Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement and Afghanistan-Pakistan stabilisation initiatives.
Commenting on his visit to Washington, the Foreign Minister expressed a keen desire to advance positive bilateral relations and to continue an open dialogue with the Obama Administration.
"The UAE and United States have shared values and common interests," said the Foreign Minister, adding that "I am looking forward to productive meetings in the coming days that will build upon this important friendship."
Sheikh Abdullah was formally received by HE Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the U.S.
The UAE Foreign Minister will meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, National Security Advisor General James Jones, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell, Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, and several other U.S. Government officials. The Foreign Minister will also meet with the U.S. - UAE Business Council.
