Mohammed bin Rashid meets Emirates National Human Rights Committee members
Abu Dhabi, April 7, 2009 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, met on Sunday at Presidential Palace Chairman and members of Emirates National Human Rights Committee, who prepared a comprehensive periodic report submitted to the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Sheikh Mohammed commended during the meeting attended by HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, HE Dr Mohammed Anwar Al Gargash, UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Dubai Police Chief General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the efforts of the committee composed of about 40 members.
"The coordination and cooperation between the public agencies and civil society organisations in this respect reflect depth of interrelation in the UAE community, whose leadership and government are keen to protect human rights, particularly woman and child rights," he said.
Sheikh Mohammed lauded the successful efforts of the committee led by Al Gergash to prepare the first report of this kind, adding that "it shows UAE national youth cadres possess creative abilities in all fields and specialisations".
He called on the committee to fill future gaps in case found in future, pointing out that the UAE doing well in regard to the protection of human rights, and the leadership and government are serious to prevent violation of human rights.
He reiterated that "it is import to observe citizenship values, concept of national participation and societal partnership, particularly between public and private sectors".
Sheikh Mohammed praised those who took part in the preparation of the report submitted to the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Sept. 9, 2008, which was endorsed last March, adding that the achievement was international recognition of the UAE's transparency in regard to the human rights field.
