In a statement to WAM Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, who is leading the UAE delegation to the conference, said UAE's participation in the forum reflects its deep belief in and commitment to dialogue among civilisations and cultures through the sharing of knowledge, understanding, mutual respect and diversification of culture, religion and values.
Meanwhile, the UAE delegation had participated in a number of discussions set up in a forum of various topics, including good governance and cultural diversity.
Members of the UAE delegation cited the cultural values represented in the UAE society where diversity, mutual respect and freedom of religion are highly respected and freely practiced.
"We believe dialogue is necessary in order to invest very profitably our common humanity and other common factors that bring together cultures to protect humanity from the dangers threatening us, whether it is environmental dangers or the dangers of violence, extremism, terrorism and conflicts caused by misunderstanding, inadequate information in this regard for us to close the chapter of the failed theorem presented on the clash of civilisations," Gargash said.
He pointed out that the doors of UAE are widely open for diverse cultures. He said the UAE, had, for a long time, supported the building of churches and other houses of worship on its land for temporary foreign workers and had expanded the scope of freedom of association and participation and developed education through the improvement of curricula to reflect and promote tolerance and respect for others' views and cultures and acceptance of diversity, adding that the UAE, for decades now, had been organising international conferences under the theme: "Education Without Boundaries" in which youths from 100 countries worldwide gather seasonally to discuss coexistence on this planet and to learn the cultures of others and discuss various cultural, information and development issues.
The minister described the UAE as an effective tool in the Alliance of Civilisations Forum and a member in a number of its various groups discussing various topics at the conference.
Meanwhile, Gargash has met, on the fringe of the conference, a number of foreign ministers participating in the event. They reviewed bilateral relations between the UAE and their respective countries.
