Vice President receives Speaker of the British House of Commons

Abu Dhabi, April 9, 2009 (WAM) - Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum received yesterday at his Zabeel Palace, Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom Michael Martin, who is currently on a visit to the UAE.
During the meeting, they held talks on the friendly relations and cooperation between UAE and UK and pondered on ways for enhancing them in various avenues.
The talks also touched on the role of parliaments in bringing various nations and cultures closer to one another, as well as in encouraging their respective governments for building balanced relations among countries based on justice.
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid stressed the role of parliamentarians in bolstering the bonds and humanitarian relations among peoples of various countries and cultures, thus working towards creating a world, where love, equality and justice will prevail.
The British official hailed UAE's policy of openness and tolerance towards various civilizations, as well as its role in encouraging the culture of dialogue for solving regional and international disputes. He described this policy as prudent and noted that it deserves the appreciation and respect from all world countries.
The meeting was attended by Dubai Deputy Ruler HH Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Speaker of Federal national Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair, Minister of Cabinet Affairs HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi and a number of senior officials.
Sheikh Mohammed also received Peter Mandelson, UK Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
During the meeting they reviewed the economic cooperation between UAE and UK and explored ways for enhancing bilateral relations in the fields of economy and trade.
The talks also touched on the repercussions of the global financial crisis and remedial measures adopted by various governments, especially by way of extending help to banks and other financial institutions and enabling them to play pivotal role in overcoming the crisis.
The British official hailed the measures adopted by UAE for supporting its national economy and the financial institutions.
The meeting was attended by Dubai Deputy Ruler HH Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Minister of Cabinet Affairs HE Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of State HE Reem Ibrahim Al Hashemi and a number of other officials.
