Al Noor Mosque opened in Kyushu, Japan
Abu Dhabi, April 15, 2009 (WAM) - A new mosque, built by an Emirati philanthropist under the supervision of the UAE Red Crescent Authority, was opened in Kyushu, the third-largest island of Japan.
The mosque, named Al Noor is built at a total cost of Dh 7 million. It serves a population of 600 Muslims in the island, which is part of Fukuoka Prefecture.
The opening ceremony was attended by Saeed Ali Al Nowais, UAE ambassador to Japan, Islamic scholars and members of the Muslim community.
In a speech delivered during the ceremony, Al Nowais praised the initiative of building the mosque in the island and thanked the local government and people of Fukuoka for their tolerant approach and their cooperation with the construction committee.
The Muslim community in Fukuoka hosted a reception on the occasion which was attended by a number of Japanese officials and members of the community.
