First Water Sports Festival in Al Gharbia
The Western Region Development Council (WRDC) of the Western Region of Abu Dhabi (Al Gharbia) will host the first ever water sports festival next month in Mirfa.
The Al Gharbia Water Sports Festival 2009 will be held from May 1 to May 9. It is aimed at encouraging social, cultural and sporting activities among the residents of Al Gharbia and the UAE, as well as to support the local athletes in the country.
The sports festival will be holding a number of competitions including an international kite boarding championship, surfing, a kayak race, beach volleyball and beach soccer. Free training sessions for kite boarding and kayaking will also be held during the week.
WRDC recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Abu Dhabi Motors Club (ADMC) and Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) to launch the event. - Khaleej Times
