Dubai Customs seizes 11 ATM card cases and thousand of electronic chips
Dubai, April 21, 2009 (WAM) - Dubai Customs has seized 11 ATM card cases in the 1st quarter of 2009 recording a decline by 85.7 per cent as compared with 77 cases seized in the same period last year.
The statistics published by the Airports Operations Department at Dubai Customs reported that 85 ATM cards, two ATMs used in reproducing credit cards and about 4900 electronic chips have been seized and found to be committed by travellers of different nationalities.
Ali Al Maqhawi, Director of Airports Operations at Dubai Customs said: "Dubai Customs is keen to seize such prohibited items and prevent them from entering the country in view of their ambient danger and use in banking embezzlement and withdrawing money from ATM users through monitoring the drawer, using the ATM itself upon the user's departure, copying the entered banking data and then taking the money".
"Customs inspection officers suspect of a traveller possessing many cards bearing different names or void of any names and data," he added. "The suspected persons have been referred to the competent security agencies for further investigations and prosecution", he maintained. "The role of the Customs Investigation department is completed by inspecting the suspected personnel, seizing their possessions of illegal cards, devices and electronic chips, producing a seizure report and referring them along with the seized items to the competent security services", he explained.
