Abdullah bin Zayed meets Gambian Vice President
Banjul - April 21, 2009 (WAM) - UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met yesterday evening at the Presidential Palace in Gambian capital, Banjul, Dr Isatou Njie Saidy, Vice President of Gambia.
The two officials discussed the bilateral relations and ways of bolstering them in all fields, particularly in the areas of developmental and investment projects - education, industry, roads, agriculture and health sectors. Saidi and Abdullah also covered in their talks the latest developments in the Arab and Islamic Worlds.
The Gambian official welcomed the visit of Sheikh Abdullah, hoping that it would enhance the cooperation ties and friendship between the two countries.
UAE Foreign Minister said the visit is in line with the UAE efforts to bolster cooperation ties in all fields to serve common interest of the two friendly peoples.
Sheikh Abdullah toured the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre set up by the Sheikh Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works in cooperation with the International Society for Eye Foundation in 2007 at cost Dh7 million. He said the UAE continues its humanitarian efforts upon the instructions of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Gambian Health Minister Dr Mariatou Jallow, extended thanks of her government to Sheikh Khalifa, for sustained support of the UAE government to Gambia, indicating that the relations have been recently growing faster, particularly in the economic and charity fields.
The Gambian Vice President also discussed the economic cooperation between the two countries with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Sheikh Abdullah was accompanied by UAE Ambassador to Sudan Eisa Abdullah Al Basha Al Nuaimi and Deputy Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi.
