UAE Foreign Trade Minister meets Mongolian senior officials

Ulaanbaatar - April 26, 2009 (WAM) - UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Sheikh Lubna al-Qasimi held talks with senior Mongolian officials on ways to further strengthen economic, trade, investment and tourism relations between the two countries.
Sheikha Lubna who is in Ulaanbaatar on her first official visit to Mongolia met with, Minister of Foreign Relations Sukhbaatar Batbold, Minister of Minerals '&' Energy Dashdorj Zorigt as well as with Mongolian Deputy Minister of Environment '&' Tourism. At the meeting with Batbold, Sheikha Lubna discussed the potential adoption of the UAE model of dry ports and free zones by Mongolia, who does not have any seafronts.
In remarks at the meetings, she noted that non-oil sectors have accounted for more than 62% of the UAE's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the year 2008.
Sheikha Lubna noted that the UAE's Masdar City will be the world's first zero-carbon city and is part of the UAE's commitment to environmental preservation and the optimal use of resources. She welcomed cooperation and partnerships with friendly countries to come up with the state-of-the-art solutions to preserve a high-quality and sustainable environment as well as to support UAE's efforts in this field.
The UAE Minister also stressed that "that despite the current global financial crisis, the UAE enjoyed an increasing inbound flow of tourists where occupancy rates have remained steady." The current Mongolia visit by Sheikha Lubna has come up with understandings with the Mongolian officials on giving the UAE-Mongolia bilateral relations a boost in the near future.
