UAE FM, Chadian Premier discuss efforts to ease Chad-Sudan tension

N’Djamena - April 26, 2009 (WAM) - Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan held talks with Chadian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Moussa Faki Mahamat on efforts to ease tensions between Chad and Sudan as well as to restore their relations to normal.
In a statement to WAM, Sheikh Abdullah said the two sides agreed on a visit to be made as soon as possible by a delegation from the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) to the Chadian-Sudanese border areas to discuss delivering aid to Sudanese refugees on Chadian territories.
"We discussed regional issues in general and the Chadian-Sudanese relations in particular. We hope Qatar's efforts would succeed in achieving rapprochement between the two governments", he remarked urging Sudanese officials for more action towards achieving this goal. The talks were held in presence of UAE Ministry of State Reem al-Hashmi and UAE Ambassador to Sudan Eissa Abdullah al-Basha al-Nuaimi.
The UAE Minister hailed the Chadian Premier's welcome of the initiative is appreciated.
The meeting, he said, also discussed development projects in Chad, adding that a UAE delegation will be sent to Chad as soon as possible in order to technically discuss these matters, Sheikh Abdullah added hailing the strong and longstanding relations between the UAE and Chad.
For his part, Chadian Premier hailed the UAE-Chadian standing relations and the UAE's aid to his country. "The people of Chad will not forget the (UAE) relief and development aid and health and education projects", Faki said. Later, Sheikh Abdullah left for Burkina Faso as part of his official tour in Africa.
