News centre for Syrian Arab Television in Damascus officially opens

Dubai, April 28, 2009 (WAM) - Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), one of the pioneering media organisations and creative services group in the Middle East, yesterday announced the news centre for the Syrian Arab Television in Damascus constructed and equipped in accordance with a decree of His Highness Sheikh
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the support of His Excellency Bashar Al Asad, Syrian President, has become operational.
The decree reflects Dubai's initiative to extend cooperation grounds in the field of media through the exchange of expertise between the UAE and the Syrian Arab Republic. In addition, the synergy will utilize the successful experience of DMI to further develop the Syrian broadcast media.
Ahmad Abdulla Al Shaikh, Media Escort to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid and Director of the Media Office, Board Member and Managing Director of DMI, accompanied by Mohsen Bilal, Syrian Minister of Information, inaugurated the News Centre at a gala ceremony, which was attended by the Higher Education Minister Dr Ghyath Barakat, the Agriculture Minister Dr Ali Safar, and Education Minister Dr Ali Saed. The event was also attended by Governor of Damascus Bishir Sabban, the Director General of the Radio and Television Authority Dr.Momtaz Al-Shiekh, as well as managers of media institutions and editors-in-chief of publications. An official delegation from the UAE comprising several officials and editorial heads of UAE newspapers also attended the event.
The dignitaries toured the 1,800 sq metre News Centre following the opening ceremony, the main editorial room, control room, and the studios that are fitted-out with world-class equipment over an area of 300 sq metres. The tour allowed the media heads to gain an insight into the details and mechanism of the news centre in the fields of editorial, presenting, production, and specialized technicians.
"In accordance with the decree of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, and through leveraging DMI's technical expertise, the News Centre in Damascus is equipped with the most modern digital technology that will bring about a transformation in the delivery of news while keeping abreast of developments in the broadcast media," Ahmad Al Shaikh said in a keynote address.
Al Shaikh emphasised that retaining top quality Arab media talent requires the creation of the right technical environment for effectively showcasing their creativity, and the News Centre will allow the Syrian broadcast media to achieve landmark accomplishments in bringing the latest news to viewers.
More importantly, the news centre at the Syrian Arab Television will facilitate the Syrian media to project a realistic image of the insightful Arab media, and contribute to highlighting the welcoming nature of the region's culture.
"The launch of the News Centre marks the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise between the UAE and Syria for the advancement of Arab media. The centre will also facilitate enhanced exchange of information and enable the station's production team to deal with breaking news more professionally. We are confident this UAE-Syrian partnership will gradually expand to include other areas of business.
"His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated constantly motivates us with his focus on the exchange of knowledge and technical expertise for the advancement of Arab media to a wider horizon. Also issuing a keynote address, Mohsen Bilal said: "On behalf of His Excellency Bashar Al Asad, I would like to thank His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for this accomplishment that serves as a cornerstone for joint Arab investments. The news centre underscores the long-standing relations that Dubai and the UAE share with the rest of the region.
"The professional and timely execution of the news centre is highly appreciated, especially with the world-class facilities the centre is equipped with. I invite all Syrian media professionals to utilize the centre's third-generation technology for raising the level of Syrian broadcast media to the highest standards." The new centre represents a major step in cooperation between DMI and Syrian media authorities. Earlier, DMI provided on-ground technical support for the broadcast of activities and events during the Arab Summit Conference, which was held in Damascus in 2008. In addition, DMI has also extended training support to a television crew from Syria at its studios in Dubai.
Representing a significant push for the level of news broadcast in the Syrian television, the centre includes key technical requirements to facilitate the production of improved news programming in format and content.
The areas dedicated for television broadcast include modern decor and unique lighting equipment, in addition to an electronic communications network to facilitate the production of politics, business, and sports news in both Arabic and English. The centre also includes dedicated areas for hosting special news reports, interviews, and talk shows.
