German Economy Min: UAE among Germany's most important trade partners in the region

Abu Dhabi, May 10, 2009 (WAM) - German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Dr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are Germany's most important export markets in the Arab world.
Guttenberg said the main focus of his 3-days visit to the UAE and Saudi Arabia will be to explore ways and means to broaden and deepen our economic cooperation. Saudi Arabia and the UAE are Germany's most important export markets in the Arab world.
The German Minister's remarks came in an exclusive interview with WAM on the start of his official visit to the UAE during which he will open the UAE-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Abu Dhabi.
The bilateral German-Emirati Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be open in Abu Dhabi on 9 May.
Guttenberg said it "will become a point of meeting and of exchange between German and Emirate business and investment partners. This newly established organisation is going to provide an important platform for the development of trade and investment in both directions." "The EU and the GCC states should conclude the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as soon as possible," he said adding that he had "noted with great pleasure that the EU and the GCC, at the last Ministerial Meeting in Muscat on 29 April, have agreed to resume the FTA-negotiations, and expressed the wish to conclude the agreement in the near future." German trade to the UAE, he noted, has seen tremendous growth, with trade volumes and transactions climbing from one record level to the other. Last year, German exports to the UAE grew by 40% to over 8 billion Euro.
