200 intraocular lens implants performed by Sharjah charity's teams in Yemen
Sanaa, May 10, 2009 (WAM) - Two hundred intraocular lens (IOL) surgeries have been performed in Yemen as part of efforts by the Sharjah Charitable Society to help the local community. 3000 other individuals were examined for eye problems in several Yemeni governorates and eye medications were also distributed by the charity's mission to Yemeni patients in coordination with local Yemeni charities.
Sheikh Issam Bin Saqr al-Qasimi, Chief of the Sharjah Ruler's Office and Chairman of the Sharjah Charitable Society has given directives to send the society's medical mission to more than 10 other countries.
An intraocular lens (IOL) is an implanted lens in the eye, usually replacing the existing crystalline lens because it has been clouded over by a cataract, or as a form of refractive surgery to change the eye's optical power. Last year, the Charity's medical teams have diagnosed and treated 50000 individuals for eye problems in 7 countries.
