A case was registered against the former Indian Audit and
Accounts Services officer on September 13, 1996 after CBI
conducted search at her residences on August 16, 1996, and
unearthed the disproportionate asset.
Ghosh, a deputy director general (licence and finance) in
the Telecom department, was tried under the Prevention of
Corruption Act for acquiring assets to the tune of Rs 22.71
lakh, allegedly disproportionate to known sources of income.
The CBI alleged Ghosh had acquired jewellery, costly
household items, a flat, a house-cum-shop and bank balances
and share certificates while abusing her position as public
servant from November 1, 1992 to August 16, 1996.
In a separate case, Ghosh, along with Sukhram and
Ramarao, MD of a Hyderabad-based firm Advance Radio Masts
(ARM) Ltd, was convicted by a Delhi court in July 2002 for
causing over Rs 1.68 crore loss to the exchequer by awarding a
contract to the firm. Her appeal against two-year jail term is
pending before Delhi High Court. PTI
