Al-Watan: EAA a Milestone of Noble Humanitarian Work

Doha, September 13 (QNA) - Al-Watan newspaper highlighted in its Monday editorial the meeting on Sunday between Chairperson of Education Above All (EAA) and Qatar Foundation HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and HE United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, where they discussed the progress of the new, ongoing project between EAA and UNHCR to educate more than 364,000 displaced children in 14 countries. Through this joint cooperation, the total number of refugee children enrolled in schools will reach 1.5 million children around the world, Al-Watan pointed out, adding that Qatar Foundation's efforts to support evacuees were also discussed during the meeting. In 2012, HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser launched Education Above All Foundation to include under its umbrella several international programs, such as Educate a Child, Al Fakhoora, Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) and Reach Out To Asia to ensure that all children in the developing world benefit from their right to education, especially those who are out of school, which currently consists of 59 million children, Al-Watan said. EAA also addresses education issues with a special commitment to the world's most disadvantaged through capacity building, resource mobilization and multisectoral alliances and partnerships, the newspaper underlined. EAA and UNHCR have been working with other partners and advocates to provide access to quality primary education for some of the most marginalized children around the world, to provide refugees with knowledge and skills in order to enable them to be resources for their host countries and subsequently support the rebuilding of their countries of origin, the newspaper added. Al-Watan concluded its Monday editorial by emphasizing that these efforts will remain a milestone of noble humanitarian work, whether through direct support for implementing programs and plans aimed at educating refugee children or through mobilizing efforts to adopt a global approach to remove institutional obstacles to the recognition of refugee education.
