UAE, UK trade up 17% at Dh6.92b

Total trade between the UAE and Britain grew by 17 per cent to £1.23 billion (Dh6.92 billion) during the first quarter of this year compared with £1.05 billion (Dh5.9 billion) during the corresponding period last year according to a report in "The Gulf Today".
According to the British Bureau of Statistics, the UAE's exports (including Dubai's exports) grew by 13 per cent to £307 million (Dh1.73 billion) during the first three months of this year compared with £271 million (Dh1.52 billion) during the same period last year.
The UAE's imports from Britain also grew by 18 per cent to £921 million (Dh5.18 billion) during the first quarter of this year compared with £783 million (Dh4.4 billion) during the first quarter of 2008.
By this, the deficit of the UAE balance of trade with the UK rose by 20 per cent to £614 million (Dh3.45 billion) during the first quarter of this year compared with £512 million (Dh2.88 billion) during the first quarter of last year. –
