Infiltration bid foiled; three militants killed

Srinagar, May 22 (PTI) Indian Army troops Friday
foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Kupwara district
of northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir by killing three
militants attempting to sneak into the valley from across the
border.

The infiltration bid was scuttled in Tangdhar sector,
130 kms from here, when troops guarding the LoC observed
movement of militants and laid multiple ambushes, a defence
spokesman said.

The heavily-armed infiltrators were challenged soon
after they crossed into this side and in the ensuing gunbattle
three militants were killed.

The whole area was immediately cordoned off and a
search operation was launched to neutralise any other member
of the infiltrating group who might have escaped the
gunbattle, the spokesman said.

The operation was continuing when last reports were
received.
