RCA steps up relief efforts in Pakistan's Swat valley

Islamabad - The line with the directives of its Chairman H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Red Crescent Authority has started implementation of an extensive programme to alleviate the plight of displaced people in the Swat Valley of Pakistan.
An RCA delegation, headed by Khamis Mohammed Al Suwaidi, met yesterday with the officials at the UNICEF office in Islamabad and discussed with them progress of a project to set up a maternity unit in Muzzafarabad. The unit, to be built at a total cost of Dh 1.1 million, will cater for over 500,000 people in Muzzafarabad and neighbouring areas. The meeting also reviewed best ways to provide healthcare services to the children in the affected areas.
