Dubai Summer Surprises set to be bigger, better
The Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) mascot ‘Modhesh’ who promises ‘Big Fun for Little Ones’ is back this summer with bigger, better and amazing surprises for kids and adults alike according to a report in Khaleej Times.
For the 2009 edition of the shopping and entertainment event, the Dubai Shopping Festival Office will unveil the transformation of ‘Modhesh Fun City’ into Modhesh World, a children’s fun centre.
DSS 2009 is all set to begin on June 11. The 65-day summer extravaganza will go on till August 14. “After nine very successful years as a leading edutainment destination in the region, and more than four million visitors, it was time for us to take Modhesh Fun City to the next level.
“This decision comes as a natural result of the amazing evolution of the Modhesh character as a brand,” Laila Suhail, CEO DSF Office said.
“Modhesh World is bigger in concept and components, it includes Modhesh Friends Club, Modhesh School Visits, Modhesh CSR programme and Modhesh GCC Tour,” Suhail added.
Spread across 37,000 square metres, Modhesh World is an indoor facility offering games and fun fare as well as activities to cater to every member of the family.
In an effort to reach out to more children and their families, Modhesh World has reduced entry fees this year for the children’s tickets to Dh15.
International entertainment shows, a Bounce and Adventure Park, a Modhesh trampoline bed, the Magic Planet section, the Mystical Maze with 150 new games, the Fun Fair, meet and greet sessions with Modhesh, and numerous other zones are just some of the attractions awaiting visitors this year.
In addition to these activities Modhesh World will play host to the Modhesh Friends Club from June 14 to August 13. Children will be exposed to different activities and experiences including martial arts, field trips, cooking, dancing, reading, and understanding the Holy Quran and Hadith (only for Muslims) in addition to social service activities.
Modhesh World doors open at 10am and close at 10pm on weekdays, from 10am to midnight on weekends and 3pm to midnight on Fridays. Tickets to the venue are priced at Dh10 for adults and Dh15 for kids with free games and rides.
Apart from the activities in Modhesh World, little ones can also look forward to some of the below mentioned events.
Kids Fashion Week from July 16 to July 22 is a fashion show that will show some of the latest trends in kids fashion from across the region and the world and some budding fashion models on the ramp.
Kids Olympics Games from July 23 to July 29 is a series of sports activities for children. The 2009 edition of Kids Olympics features two arenas to accommodate competitions for children of all ages.

Not forgetting traditional events, the Min Bladi Al Emara from July 1 to July 10 is a traditional event that focuses on Emirati heritage activities. Min Bladi has been a major crowd puller since it featured in in-mall events. Junior Chef of the Year Awards (July 8 to July 14) are recognition of culinary talent across the region.
