British royal horses' visit to Abu Dhabi attracts UK media attention

Britain's Household Cavalry Musical Ride of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which will perform for the first time in the Middle East at Abu Dhabi's International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) in 2009, has attracted a wide media attention in the United Kingdom.
The participation of Britain's Household Cavalry is seen as evidence of strong cultural ties between the two countries. Press Association TV, the major national news agency in the United Kingdom, gave a detailed report on the preparations being conducted by the Household Cavalry prior to the participation in ADIHEX.
"We are pleased we will be in Abu Dhabi during this important cultural and heritage occasion," Captain Edward Oliver, an officer in the Household Cavalry told UK television. "The invitation for the Exhibition by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is considered as a reminder of the importance of cultural ties between the two countries and an emphasis that understanding the other cannot be done without building bridges between the two parties," he added.
The television showed footage of the official Abu Dhabi Exhibition delegation which visited London recently to witness the exercise of the Cavalry at London's Hyde Park Barracks.
According to the weekly British magazine, "Horse '&' Hound", specialized in equestrian affairs, the Royal Household Cavalry's participation in Abu Dhabi 2009 opens a new page of cooperation between the two countries that goes beyond traditional horse racing. The magazine highlighted in its report the importance of the Royal Household Cavalry and its role in protecting the monarch since 1600. Although it is a fighting force, it also plays a protocol role for Britain's Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the "Horse" magazine, the trip is extra significant because it is the first time the Royal Household Cavalry leaves Europe. Abu Dhabi's offer also set a precedent for similar trips.
The British "Army" magazine quoted General Lord Charles Guthrie, the Colonel of the Life Guards and former Chief of the UK Defence Staff, as saying: "This invitation to one of the UK's most iconic and traditional Regiments to visit Abu Dhabi, the senior Emirate of the UAE, is a demonstration of the deep-rooted and positive relationship between the two counties and will act as a bridge between two cultures."
The broadsheet "Daily Telegraph" said the trip will strengthen relations between the UAE and Britain, and quoted Household Cavalry spokesman Captain Michael Fry, as saying "It is an unbelievable opportunity for the team and we looking forward to it immensely."
The tabloid "Daily Mail" said the British participation brings together the military's precision with art performance, which would be against the backdrop of contemporary music. The newspaper published pictures of the various stages of training during the presence of Abu Dhabi's delegation, quoting senior officers who expressed their happiness to participate at ADIHEX.
All major picture agencies distributed many pictures of the ADIHEX delegation visit to the Hyde Park Barracks and the Household Cavalry demonstrating their control of their horses.
Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of ADIHEX, hailed the success of Abu Dhabi's delegation to the UK, praising the British warm reception. "The visiting delegation enjoyed hospitality and interest. The press conference we held in London recently received wide attention by various media outlets," said Qubaisi.
"The participation of the Household Cavalry is more than just an official participation abroad, but it serves as a bridge for cultural exchange between the two countries," he said in a special press statement.
"We expect that the participation itself to be a major media event, which will receive greater and wider press attention than its announcement has received so far," he added.
