Ministerial Service Council approves old mobile phones disposal proposal
The Ministerial Service Council at a meeting on Sunday, chaired by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, approved a proposal by the Ministry of Water and Environment to regulate the safe collection, recycling and disposal of used mobile phones to restrict environmental impact.
With 800000 mobile phones consumed in 2008 alone, the UAE ranks among the world's biggest consumers of these electronic gadgets which turn into hazardous solid wastes when they are improperly disposed of.
The Council also considered the closing accounts of a number of public authorities and establishments for the outgoing fiscal year. It gave directives to consider remarks by the State Audit Institution. It also took relevant decisions on issues related to the federal government's work.
