UAE signs Air Services Agreement with Colombia
The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has initialled an Air Services Agreement (ASA) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia on 01st June 2009 in Dubai, to increase flights between the two countries.
This agreement was initialled by HE Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Fernando Sanclemente, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Sharjah Civil Aviation, Emirates airline and Etihad Airways, attended the negotiations.
The UAE Delegation designated, in addition to Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, RAK Airways and Fly Dubai as UAE national Airlines. The Designated Airlines of Colombia shall be designated in due course through diplomatic channels.
Passenger services and up to 28 weekly frequencies for All-Cargo services for the designated airlines of each party. The designated Airlines can exercise 5th freedom traffic rights on intermediate and beyond points for both passenger and All-cargo services as specified in the MoU.
The designated Airlines of the UAE will also be allowed to operate unrestricted passenger frequencies with any type of aircraft to Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, San Andres, Providence Island and Armenia in Colombia.
It was reported that this is the first agreement of this type that the Government of Colombia signs in the region and it further strengths the relationship of the two countries.
