GCC foreign ministers back UAE right to isles

Riyadh - The GCC foreign ministers have reiterated their support for the UAE right over its three islands, occupied by Iran and urged the latter to respond to UAE efforts aimed at settling the issue through direct negotiations or referring the case to the International Court of Justice.
"The GCC foreign ministers' council renews its support to the UAE sovereignty over its three islands - Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa - and over their territorial waters, airspace, continental shelf and economic zone as an integral of the UAE," said a statement issued in Riyadh today at the end of the 111th meeting of the GCC foreign ministers' council.
The statement expressed its regret that contacts with Iran to reach a solution to the issue had not produced any positive results that would contribute to enhancing regional security and stability.
The statement also called for considering peaceful means which will help the UAE restore its right to its three islands. It also urged Iran to respond to UAE efforts aimed at settling the issue through direct negotiations or referring the case to the International Court of Justice.
