Sheikha Lubna awarded French Legion of Honour

Paris - On behalf of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, French Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment Christine Lagarde decorated H.E. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, with the Legion d'honneur (National Order of the Legion of Honour) at a colourful ceremony held today at the Ministry premises.
The function was attended by Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and a number of Emirati and French top officials, dignitaries and diplomats.
The French minister praised Sheikha Lubna as the first woman in the Gulf to take ministerial portfolios for economy and foreign trade. She outlined the numerous personal attributes enjoyed by Sheikha Lubna as well as her efforts and expertise which led her to achieve resounding success in various fields.
She added that Sheikha Lubna applied a blend of excellence, dynamics and enthusiasm in her work. She also pointed out to Sheikha Lubna's drive to raise the profile of her country high at international theatre and her efforts for economic reforms.
For her part, Sheikha Lubna said the honour signifies the excellent relations between the UAE and France in all domains especially in economy and trade.
“Women in the UAE hold four ministerial posts and constitute 22 per cent of the Federal National Council's membership,'' she said about the role of women in the UAE.
“The order is a tribute to the woman in UAE for her leading role under the unlimited support of the country's leadership and its care for advancement and empowerment of women,” she added
